From 1st January 2012, Colin Rose will become global head of construction engineering, succeeding Hugh Phillips, who has led the team since 2008 and now has retirement plans.
Mr Rose has been a senior underwriter at the firm since 2004, having previously held senior construction and engineering roles in the London market and in Germany.
He moved to the US in 2009 to establish the US builders risk platform for Beazley, and will now return to London to head the global team and underwrite major project business alongside construction and engineering underwriter, Matthew Larke.
The US builders risk team will in future be led by Tom Warner, who is based in Atlanta, and will be appointing an additional underwriter by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, in the Asia Pacific region, Beazley’s Singapore office will be recruiting an additional underwriter to support business growth, reporting to Byran Lee, senior underwriter and principal officer.
Construction and engineering teams in London, Atlanta and Singapore will all report into Mr Rose.
The firms property group deputy head, Mark Bernacki, comments: “I am confident that under Colin’s leadership the team will continue to provide brokers and clients with exemplary underwriting and claims service and our planned recruitment will enable us to further strengthen this line of business.”
Beazley recorded a pre-tax loss of $24.2 million in the six months to the end of June, compared with a profit of $115.5 million in the same period of 2010, having felt the impact of record insurance industry catastrophe losses.
